QBs

Matt Flynn: This could be a big question mark, but when given the keys to the Packers offense, he certainly did shine. The Seahawks offense certainly doesn’t compare to the Pack, but Flynn has shown some pretty great ability, and I think he has the chance to be a good starting NFL QB, and a good fantasy option as well.

Sam Bradford: If Sam had any receiver he could pass the ball to, maybe he’d be able to show off a little bit. With no WRs even making my list below from the Rams, good luck again this season Mr. Bradford.

Alex Smith: After a great 2011, Smith has a chance to permanently quiet down all of us critics. He was led to the finish line by his defense all season but really stepped up when he needed to against the Saints in the playoffs. With another offseason under his belt and more mentoring from Jim Harbaugh, why couldn’t Smith continue to get better and better?

Kevin Kolb: The former Eagle might have to look over his shoulder for a good part of the season as clearly the Cardinals are not as pleased as they’d like to be with their big 2011 acquisition. While injured last season, Skelton stepped in and performed as good or better than Kolb. If he’s going to be the starter and if this team is going to do anything worth noticing, Kolb will have to find his game this season and really put it into action.

RBs

Marshawn Lynch: Get ready for some more Beast Mode! Lynch not only dragged his team through the 2011 season, but he also dragged my fantasy team and probably many others as well. An early season trade I made for Adrian Peterson, I was able to get a little “extra” in Lynch. Turns out AP was the extra and Lynch was the horse. I expect another good season out of the Skittles RB and now that the Seahawks have a real QB, Lynch has a chance to be a big part of a pretty solid offense.

Frank Gore/Brandon Jacobs: Gore has consistently gone very high in the past few fantasy drafts, and probably will merit a pretty high pick again this year. The addition of Jacobs is huge for the Niners, but maybe not as much for Fantasy owners. I’d look to take Jacobs as well if I plan on drafting Gore, but this team may be much less of a feature back system this year.

Beanie Wells/Ryan Williams: Beanie is a pretty good talent, but as in the past many years, don’t expect too much out of the Cardinals running game. We’ll have to see how Wells and the rookie Williams look in camp, but the Cards love to air it out to Fitzgerald and now their new rookie WR, as well as not producing a whole lot of offense overall. Beanie could be a nice #2 or #3 back in your league, but don’t take out a second mortgage for him.

Steven Jackson: The Rams backed up injury prone Jackson with a few rookies, but expect Jackson to get the rock and run with it pretty well. If not for being on a very inferior team, Steven Jackson would be much higher on this list. Granted, he’s always a risky option since he’s a featured back, another year older, and always tends to get injured. That said, if you can find some value as he falls in the draft, Jackson could be a nice piece to a championship fantasy roster.

WRs

Larry Fitzgerald: Subtracting out Megatron the machine, Fitzgerald is arguably the best WR in football. He’s got good speed, great hands, and can make any cornerback look bad and any QB look good. For this reason alone, Kevin Kolb or whoever the Arizona QB ends up being may be worth a look in your fantasy draft.

Mario Manningham: I like this move by the Niners a lot. Alex Smith needed some additional support, and Manningham is just what the Doctor ordered. Combine him with Crabtree, Moss and Gates, and this could be a pretty high powered offense led by QB Smith.

Michael Crabtree: Another solid receiver, but an average QB. Both Manningham and Crabtree as well as Randy Moss will be negatively impacted by the 49ers offense and their QB. He’s not a bad QB, but I could name 10-15 QBs I’d prefer be throwing the ball to my fantasy receivers.

Sidney Rice: This is an interesting discussion as Rice has seen his fantasy impact decline dramatically from his top season with Brett Favre. That said, Sidney Rice still has some talent and new QB Matt Flynn could help that talent shine again.

Michael Floyd: If you’re looking for a later round pick and want to go for a rookie flyer, Floyd might be a good option. A lot of his progress and success will be based on the performance of the AZ offense and QB, but with Larry Fitzgerald commanding all sorts of coverage on the opposite side of the field, there should be tons of opportunities for Floyd to make catches and big plays. Michael Floyd could be a nice little sleeper.

TEs

Vernon Davis: This guy is a beast. He really bailed out Alex Smith last season and was a great weapon for him. Look for much of the same this season with some potential for even more upside as Manningham and the others draw a large amount of attention.

Kellen Winslow: As a victim of a weaker quarterback in Tampa, Winslow still showed talent. While Matt Flynn gets adjusted to this offense, Winslow could see some good action. And once they both settle in, this offense could begin to put up pretty solid numbers including Winslow.

Lance Kendricks: He didn’t do much last season, and I wouldn’t expect much this season either. But if you’re desperate, he is one of the few targets in the Rams offense that Bradford can throw to.

Todd Heap: I wasn’t a Todd Heap fan in Baltimore and I won’t be in Arizona either. From a team standpoint, he’s average at best. From a fantasy standpoint, he’s lousy. Enough said?

That’s it for the NFC West. Hopefully this will be a more competitive division in 2012 than the past few seasons. Stay tuned for all of the AFC Divisional breakdowns and fantasy impact players coming up!
